On July 14th, 2000, the USA Mountain Bike Olympic Selection Committee--consisting of 4 people whom failed to attend and races involved in the Olympic selection process--found Steve Larsen guilty of the following:
Guilty of:
1) Being #1 ranked American man in the UCI world standings
2) Being the 1999 Pan-American gold medal winner.
(wait...selected athletes were NOT in attendance!!)
3) Having a 7-4 advantage in
NORBA NCS wins over the past 3 years versus the two riders (combined) selected
by the Committee (This has nothing to do with
the olympic trials criteria).
4) Being the only "long team"
member to place in all three selection races (did
you read the criteria Newman? there were 8 selection races).
5) Being selected for 2000 Mountain
Bike Olympic Team by the National team coach.
Sentence:
1) No appointment to the 2000
Mountain Bike Olympic team
2) No participation in the 2000
Olympic games.
I, FURTHERMORE, FIND NEWMAN (I MEAN LARSEN) GUILTY OF:
1.) NOT READING THE QUALIFYING
CRITERIA FOR THE 2000 OLYMPIC GAMES
--IT'S NOT BASED ON THE NCS
--NOT BASED ON THE PAN-AMERICAN
GAMES
--AND NOT BASED ON WORLD CUP
RACES!
2.) INCESSANT COMPLAINING, WHINING, AND FAILURE TO TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
3.) A HISTORY OF CHOKING IN SEPTEMBER (WHEN THE OLYMPIC RACE IS BY THE WAY) OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS AT THE NCS FINALS VERSUS THE TWO SELECTED RIDERS FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES (LARSEN LOST THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TO EACH OF THEM ONCE BECAUSE OF IT!)
4.) BEING THE BIGGEST NEWMAN
ON EARTH!
